Authority
It feels great to write today. For so many reasons. First of all, it’s my birthday. Welcome sweet 27! Then, this brilliant theme. The amazing place I am at, enjoying life. Such a nice canvas to mentally draw on.
Today is about perception. Because authority is not a tangible concept. It is in reality a perception we attribute to others, based on several factors which we will discuss in some level of detail along the next lines.
Authority is perceived through the following aspects:
- Competence
- Brand
- Connection
- Novelty
Competence is how we demonstrate the abilities we have. If you are very knowledgeable but do not show that in the proper way, your competence will not be perceived. Therefore, your authority won’t be validated.
Brand, whether it’s a personal brand, company, or the way you present yourself, image is a powerful perception marker. How you show yourself visually, where, and in which way. All that matters to how you, as a brand, are perceived. Again, it will impact your authority.
Connection. The stepping stone of authority. If you can’t connect to people, you will never be perceived as an authority figure. People connect to people. And the world is…
